Learning Finnish, but YKI scares you

The most frustrating thing is to know the language but fail the exam because of the format, timing and nerves. Here's what almost everyone struggles with.

You don't get the format

It's unclear what exactly they'll ask, how it's scored and how much time you get for each part. That means panic before you even start.

Time is running out

Only a few weeks left before the exam, and it's too late to prepare "bit by bit from random sources" — you need a system and a deadline.

You freeze in speaking and writing

It's all in your head, but you freeze on the oral and written parts. You lack set phrases, structure and simply practice against the clock.

The course is for those who already know a little Finnish and want to confidently pass YKI with a score of 3–4 for citizenship or work. We tackle exactly these three pain points.
The key difference

The program is built around the exam date, not around Finnish in general

The 12 weeks are split into 3 phases and structured so that by the exam on 7 November you arrive "warmed up", not burned out. Every lesson uses real YKI task types: the same formats of letters, listening and monologues.

A clear path from fear to certificate

No chaos: first the foundation, then intensive practice of every skill, and at the end — consolidation and confidence.

22

lessons — YKI preparation

The exam format and strategies for each part: Kirjoittaminen, Puhuminen, Kuullun ymmärtäminen and reading. Plus two full mock exams with review.

6

lessons — leveling up

Grammar in depth — cases and verb rections, expanding your vocabulary around the exam topics, and fluency. Not about the task format, but about the language itself that you use to complete them.

How these lessons are spread across the course
YKI Level
They alternate rather than run in blocks — so that by the mock exam your grammar is fresh, not forgotten.

Why students on this course actually pass

We don't just "teach Finnish". We prepare you for the exam itself — for every part of it.

Built around a specific date

Starts 30 August, finishes 5 November — 2 days before the exam. You arrive "warmed up", not burned out.

Everything in YKI format

Every lesson uses real exam task types: the same formats of letters, listening and monologues.

2 full mock exams

In the middle of the course and on the home stretch, in conditions as close to the real thing as possible.

Individual error review

After each mock exam — a personal analysis: what specifically holds you back and how to fix it.

Strategies, not just language

Dedicated lessons on the technique for each section: listening, reading, writing, speaking.

A clear goal — a score of 3–4

The level you need for citizenship and most work requirements in Finland.

A format where you won't drop out

A lively rhythm with a deadline and accountability — so your prep actually makes it to the end instead of fizzling out in week two.

The key points in brief

When does the course start and when is the exam itself?+
The course runs from 30 August to 5 November 2026 — that's 28 lessons over 12 weeks. The YKI exam is on 7 November 2026. So there are just 2 days between the last lesson and the exam: a short buffer for light revision, with no new material and no burnout.
Is the course right for me if I only recently started learning Finnish?+
The course is designed for those who already have a base in Finnish and aim to pass YKI with a score of 3–4. If you're not sure about your level — leave a request, and we'll advise you and tell you honestly whether you're ready for the sprint or should build up your basics first.
What format are the lessons in?+
Live 60-minute online group lessons, mostly twice a week — Wednesday and Friday. Some weeks add a third day (Monday) so the course fits exactly by 5 November. These aren't recorded lectures: you speak, ask questions and get feedback in real time. We'll send the exact schedule when you join the group.
What if I miss a lesson?+
No problem — you won't fall out of the program. We'll explain the details about recordings and catching up on material when you enrol, so you can easily catch up with the group.
Why two mock exams?+
The first mock exam is in the middle of the course: it shows your weak spots while there's still time to fix them. The second is on the home stretch, focused on timing and confidence. After each one there's a separate lesson with an individual review of your specific mistakes.
A YKI score of 3–4 — is that enough for citizenship?+
Yes. A score of 3 on YKI (keskitaso) is the level required for Finnish citizenship, and a 4 is suitable for most work situations. The course leads to exactly this goal.
How do I sign up?+
Click "Sign up for the course", leave your name and contact — the teacher will get in touch, answer your questions and help you take a seat in the group. Enrolment is open now.
