The exam is behind you, and now comes the most nerve-wracking part: the wait. And it usually raises more questions than the test itself — when will the result arrive, where do you check it, what do the numbers on the certificate mean, and what happens if you fall short. Here is the full picture, based on the Finnish National Agency for Education (oph.fi), accurate as of 24 July 2026.
In short: results take about two months. Since 1 January 2026 you cannot retake individual subtests, and the YKI certificate never expires. A reassessment is possible, but it costs money and must be requested within 30 days.
When results arrive
Assessment takes roughly two months after the test day. This is not a delay but the norm: the papers are marked by hand by several assessors. Build this buffer into your plans, especially if you have a deadline for citizenship or work documents.

How to check your result
From spring 2026, results are digital. Where and how to see them:
- In My Studyinfo (Oma Opintopolku) — your personal area on opintopolku.fi. Signing in requires Finnish identification via Suomi.fi (bank credentials, mobile certificate or ID card).
- You are notified through Suomi.fi Messages when the result is ready.
- A printed certificate (for tests before 31 March 2026) is mailed to the address you registered with.
Important: results are not given over the phone or by email. If someone calls you or emails your "YKI results", that is not an official channel.
How to read the certificate
YKI has four subtests, and you receive a separate grade for each: listening comprehension, speaking, reading comprehension and writing. Grades run on a scale from 1 to 6:

What to do if you fall short
First, don't panic: missing the score in one subtest is completely normal, especially speaking or writing. But one rule has to be accepted straight away:
You cannot retake individual subtests. If you miss the score in one part, you register and sit the whole exam again — all four subtests.
What this changes in practice:
- You prepare for all subtests, not only the "failed" one.
- Strengthen the weak part, but don't lose the strong ones.
- Pick your next date with room to prepare — the schedule and registration windows are in YKI test dates 2026–2027.

Requesting a reassessment (rectification)
If you are convinced a grade is too low, you can request a reassessment. The conditions are strict:

The reassessment decision is final — it cannot be appealed further. So a reassessment makes sense when you are close to the threshold (say you got 2 but felt you were at level 3), not "just in case": 108 € per subtest is significant.
The certificate never expires
Good news: the YKI certificate is valid indefinitely — it never expires. A result you pass once stays with you for good, for citizenship, work or study.
The only caveat: an employer may ask you to demonstrate your language again if the certificate is old, because language fades without use. But the certificate itself cannot formally stop being valid.
